High pressure pushes active weather east and north
Thursday Thursday starts fine and warm across Mediterranean Europe. Clouds will encroach on Portugal later in the day, Spain and the islands staying dry and sunny. Variable clouds will bring light showers to Italy's west coast and the Balkan coast. The Balkans will experience more consistent rain in the evening, some potentially heavy or even snowy at high inland areas. A weakening low at the Germany/Poland border will push east driving a band of rain southeastward across central Europe. This will drop snow on the Swiss and Austrian Alps. The low will push through Poland bringing rain and increased winds across the northern European plain and eastward into Belarus, Lithuania, and western Ukraine. Passing of the rain will bring brighter conditions and the possibility of extensive sunshine, particularly in northern France, western Germany, and the Low Countries. Southern Scandinavia will experience similar conditions. Morning rain in Denmark and southern Sweden will clear to the east, bringing intermittent sun and cold winds. Stronger winds will blow on the Norwegian coast producing rain in the south and snow in the north.
Friday A mix of clouds and sun will dominate the Iberian peninsula with light showers on Portugal's west coast. A fine sunny day will prevail on the Beleric islands. A low will develop over the Adriatic sea driving stronger winds and rains along the coasts and across most of southern Italy, reaching Sardinia and Corsica. The rains will graze the Greek west coast, though inland likely to receive only patchy cloud. The rain will stretch northeast through Romania and migrate east bringing a period of light to moderate rain. Light showers, some wintery, will follow in the wake of this rain band, with sunny spells possible as well. Switzerland, Austria, northern Italy, and France will see a fine day with plentiful sun as high pressure sits atop Germany. Dry with sunny spells likely in Germany, western Poland, and the Baltics with a light breeze. More widespread cloud likely to prevail to the east and north. Winds increase across the UK and the North Sea into Scandinavia. Norway's coastal mountains will see snowfall through much of the day, while Sweden, Finland, and Denmark will see mostly cloudy skies with occasional light showers.
