Broken cloud and mostly dry start, windier next week and colder for a time

Changing weather in the days ahead. Starting quiet with mist and fog patches for some but then turning cooler and breezier over the weekend. Next week may start cold and windy with the risk of some snow in the north. Probably turning milder again by the end of the week.

Monday 27/01/20
An area of low pressure looks set to arrive from the southwest later on Monday bringing heavy outbreaks of rain (snow over higher ground) to southern parts of Ireland and the UK. Gales may affect much of England, Ireland and Wales with strong coastal gusts. A drier day for northeastern areas with some spells of sunshine. Cold in Scotland and Ireland but milder for England and Wales. Highs at 3°C in northern Scotland, 10°C in southern England.


Tuesday 28/01/20
A colder day for all on Tuesday with low pressure north of Scotland. There will be a mix of showers, these falling as snow in Scotland, northern England, Wales and the north and west of Ireland, and sunny spells. More persistent snow may affect western Scotland while southern coastal parts of England could see heavy rain and strong winds for a time. Feeling cold in the wind with highs at just 3 to 7°C.


Wednesday 29/01/20
Further snow overnight over northern and western Scotland as well as the hills of northwest England. These are likely to fade through the day on Wednesday although always a risk of some showers over western coasts. Tending to be dry and bright in the east and south. Continuing chilly with highs at 4 to 7°C.
 


Thursday 30/01/20
A generally drier and brighter day across the country after early showers over western areas fade. Cloud builds again over Ireland and western parts of the UK later. Highs of 3°C in northern Scotland to 7 to 10°C everywhere else.


Friday 31/01/20
Friday may see the arrival of low pressure from the west again. A cloudy day across the country with rain spreading from west to east. Highs ranging from 5°C in northern Scotland to 11°C in southern England.

Saturday 01/02/20
Low pressure stays nearby bringing cloudy conditions again on Saturday. Rain affects much of Ireland and western and northern parts of the UK. Winds picking up again with highs of 7 to 10°C.
