Morning Call - February 29, 2020
Gales to the west
Snow for some

Issued: 0530hrs Saturday 29th February 2020
Duty forecaster: Claire Darbinyan

Storm Jorge brings outbreaks of rain to most areas through Saturday with snow arriving over northern parts of the UK and Ireland later in the day. Wintry showers affect western coasts and hills of Ireland, Wales and southern England through the day. Winds will be strong across southern areas too reaching severe gale force, perhaps stronger, to the west of Ireland and through the Irish Sea.

Good Morning,

A cold front sweeps across England and Scotland through Saturday morning taking heavy rain and some hill snow with it. To the west, over Ireland, Wales and Northern Ireland follows brighter, windy conditions with frequent showers, some wintry, over western coasts and hills. Gales affect southern and western areas with severe gales, or stronger, for western coasts of Ireland.

Staying windy through Saturday afternoon with another area of heavy rain, sleet and snow moving across Ireland and into the UK. This will likely be heaviest, and most persistent, over northern Ireland, Northern Ireland, central and southern Scotland and northern England. Gales continue to affect southern parts of the country with (wintry) showers for southern and western coasts and hills. Severe gales expected for Irish Sea coasts through the afternoon too.

Outbreaks of snow and rain continue into Saturday evening for western and southern Scotland, Northern Ireland and northern England while western coasts of Ireland, Wales and southern England see wintry showers persist. Winds stay strong as well with severe gales to the west of Ireland and over northern parts of England and southern Scotland.

Have a good day!

Claire
