Rain and wind
Mild south

Issued: 0930 Saturday 24th October 2020
Duty forecaster: Alexi Venerus

Unsettled with wet and windy conditions at times throughout the next 7 days.

Staying generally unsettled during this weekend and through this week, as the Jet Stream sits right over the UK and Ireland allowing low pressure systems to slam straight into the country. Expect heavy rain and strong winds at times. Temperatures around or slightly above average in the south but always feeling cooler towards the north and west.

Tuesday 27/10/20
A wet and windy start for western areas although dry across more central and eastern areas. The band of rain will spread from west to east across the country through the day. Rain looks to be heavy and persistent across parts of Scotland. Winds in the west of Ireland strengthening to gale force strengths later on in the day. High temperatures range from 9 to 14C.

Wednesday 28/10/20
Heavy rain could potentially linger over eastern Scotland first thing on Wednesday before the front eventually clears offshore. Meanwhile, with low pressure circulating just to the west of Scotland expect showers across mainly western areas, at times merging into longer spells of rain, but some of these showers are likely to push eastwards on that blustery wind. Drier and brighter generally further east. There is also the risk for rain to affect the southern English coasts through much of the day. Highs at 9 to 13C.

Thursday 29/10/20
Another unsettled day once again as rain spreads in from the west. A dry start in the east but rain will soon affect most places by the early afternoon. The far north of Scotland, however, won't be affected by rain until the evening. There is some uncertainty on the exact track of the low pressure at this stage, but there is the chance for drier conditions behind the rain across parts of Wales and southwest England as well as eastern Ireland. A breezy day for all but particularly so across more southern areas. Temperatures rise a couple degrees in the south with highs here reaching 16C. Highs around 11C further north and west.

Friday 30/10/20
There is again uncertainty on the weather pattern come Friday. It currently looks like many areas will be dry for much of the day, although rain or showers are likely to affect more western areas. Another area of Atlantic low pressure has shown reasonable consistency in its development and will bring rain to Ireland, Northern Ireland and Wales initially before spreading eastwards. The timing and exact track of the low still remains uncertain however. Another mild day for southern England where highs could reach 16C again. Highs at 9C further north and west.

Saturday 31/10/20
Unsettled and wet to the north as an area of low pressure moves across Northern Ireland then Scotland. Heavy and persistent rain is likely across these regions. Rain too affecting Wales and southwest England. Drier elsewhere as high pressure attempts to ridge in from the near continent. A windy day once again. Mild across much of England with highs around 15 to 16C. Cooler again further north and west where highs are around 9 to 10C.

Sunday 01/11/20
Staying unsettled with rain to the north and west but high pressure looking to hold on to southern areas bringing drier weather here. Cooler for southern areas on Sunday with highs here at 14C and 9C further north and west.
