Largely dry north

Issued: 1000hrs Monday 28th May 2018
Duty forecaster: Garry Nicholson

Light winds, coastal breezes, some murk

A slow moving weather pattern over the next week or so produces an ongoing risk of thunderstorms, but also plenty of dry, warm and sunny weather. Best conditions generally across northern Britain. Warmest toward the west. Eastern districts will pull in low cloud from the North Sea at times.

Thursday 31/05/18
Shallow low pressure influences the British Isles. Generally warm and humid with a risk of thunderstorms. The greatest risk of downpours is across central and southern parts of Britain and Ireland, with some slow-moving torrential bursts possible into the afternoon and evening. An easterly breeze across Scotland, otherwise very little wind. Gusty locally around showers. Sea breezes near coasts. Max temperatures 21 to 24C inland, but just 14 to 17C coasts.

Friday 01/06/18
Very little change with slack pressure and areas of thundery rain moving around slowly. Again, the greatest risk exists across central and southern regions of Britain and Ireland, with just scattered showers in northern areas. Periods of sunshine. Murky for some North Sea coasts. Light winds and coastal sea breezes. Highs 18 to 25C, warmest central and western areas.

Saturday 02/06/18
High pressure lies to the north-west, whilst slack low pressure stays to the south. A risk of local heavy showers or thunderstorms, but also plenty of dry and bright weather. Quite hazy, and murky around some coasts, especially in the east. Light winds, mainly east to north-easterly in northern Britain. Highs 17 to 24C.

Sunday 03/06/18
High pressure stays to the north, maintaining dry weather for many, but with a risk of local showers or isolated thunderstorms. Storms most likely toward the south and south-west. A general easterly breeze. Highs 17 to 24C.

Monday 04/06/18
High pressure tries to extend back south across the British Isles, bringing drier conditions for many. Isolated showers possible. A north-easterly breeze, cool on eastern coasts. Sunniest and warmest in the west. Highs 17 to 24C.

Tuesday 05/06/18
A familiar east to northeasterly flow. Lots of dry and sunny weather. Warmest in the west. Local showers far south. Highs 17 to 24C.
