Changeable from next weekend, westerlies return

High pressure will expand over the country during this week to bring a much more benign spell of weather. Areas of fog will become widespread into midweek and frost is expected as winds drop light under clearer skies. Some changes by next weekend as pressure lowers and mixed Atlantic patterns return.

Wednesday 11/12/24
High pressure dominates through midweek. Fog across much of the country, thinning in places, but may persist all day for some low-lying central and northern locations. A breeze in southern England with some cloud, local showers near the English Channel coast. Low cloud in the far northwest of Scotland, some drizzle. Highs at 3 to 7C, coolest where fog persists.

Thursday 12/12/24
High pressure stays in charge maintaining dry conditions but risk ongoing areas of persistent fog. Light winds for most places. Local sun breaking through, likely toward eastern Scotland and southwest England, here with a light to moderate easterly breeze. Highs 4 to 8C, cooler where fog lingers.


 

Friday 13/12/24
A quiet day for most but high pressure tends to weaken. Drizzle and patchy rain in Scotland and western parts of England and Wales. Dry in central and eastern areas but rather dull with low cloud and some areas of fog. Highs 4 to 7C.



 
 
 

Saturday 14/12/24
Pressure lowers a little. A weakening front slips south bringing some patchy rain and showers. Bright spells for northern England and central Scotland. Moderate west to northwesterly breezes. A little milder at least in the south. Highs 5 to 9C.



 
 
 

Sunday 15/12/24
Westerly winds strengthen and some rain moves into western Scotland as fronts come in from the Atlantic. Cloudy in most western areas. Some sun in the south and east, staying mostly dry here. Milder for many, cooler later in Scotland. Highs 7 to 12C.

Monday 16/12/24
Strong westerly winds across most areas. Rain for western Scotland may persist. Spots of rain and cloudy in western parts of England, Wales and Ireland. Largely dry central and southeastern areas. Fairly mild. Highs 7 to 12C.
