A foggy start for many

We have a band of rain spreading from the west through the day affecting much of England and Wales. Drier over Scotland while showers affect parts of Ireland.

Good morning,

There's an east-west split in the weather this morning with eastern areas starting dry and bright and western areas starting rather grey and wet as a band of rain pushes into eastern Ireland and western parts of the UK. Mist and fog patches may be a problem for central and southern parts of England too first thing. Rain edges eastward through the morning, not making much progress across Scotland, staying over western fringes here, but edging across Wales and into the Midlands. Rain will turn to sleet and snow over higher ground.

Into the afternoon and there will be frequent showers for western parts of Ireland. Drier and brighter to the east though eastern parts of Northern Ireland could hold onto the rain a little longer. Rain tending to ease across Scotland with the exception of far southwestern areas. Central parts of England will be the focus of rainfall through the afternoon. Brighter to the west but with frequent showers for coastal areas while the far northeast and east of Enland should stay dry. Another chilly day with highs of 3 to 5C for northern areas, 6 to 9C, perhaps 10C, for southern and eastern areas.

Showers tending to ease into Saturday evening while northern and eastern parts of England will see continued rainfall.

Have a good day!
