Mostly settled, occasional fronts slip west-to-east
Southwesterly air wafts across Britain and Ireland this week, with high pressure persistent over central and southeastern regions. Little day-to-day variation: often a lot of cloud, and a little rain mostly toward the northwest. Sunny spells as well. Temperatures nearer to average, or milder in north and western areas.

Thursday 16/1/25 Little change on Thursday with the southwesterly flow continuing and high pressure to the south giving mist and fog patches for central and southeastern England. A little rain affecting western Scotland, quite windy here too. Plenty of low cloud across windward facing coastal regions bringing extensive hill fog. Best chance of sun in northern England. Highs at 6C in central England, up to 9C most elsewhere.
Friday 17/1/25 High pressure affecting much of the country on Friday. A risk of mist and fog patches in England and Wales, slowly lifting to leave broken cloud and some sunny spells, best in the east. More cloud in western Scotland, Ireland and perhaps west Wales with a few spots of drizzle here. Windy western Ireland and western Scotland. Highs at 7 to 8C, up to 11C in northern Scotland.
Saturday 18/1/25 Higher pressure to the east. Fronts slowly approaching western Ireland and western Scotland with clouds and drizzle. Fair for most with sunny spells, brightest in the east and northeast. Southerly breezes, calmer in east England. Highs at 6 to 8C, warmer in the far north.
Sunday 19/1/25 A weak front draped across western Britain and through Ireland giving cloud and some drizzle, local steady rain for southwest Scotland. Some rain may reach into northwest England. Fog and mist in central and eastern England, only slowly clearing. Highs at 5 to 8C, local 11C far southwest.
Monday 20/1/25 Southwesterly breezes bring showery rain to western Scotland and Northern Ireland. Pressure stays high to the south with rather cloudy skies persisting. Remnants of a front may produce drizzle. Best sunnier spells in the northeast. Highs 6 to 10C.
Tuesday 21/1/25 Increasing winds in the north, possibly followed by a spell of rain in most places. Southern areas mostly dry with calmer winds. Light drizzle coming and going on southwestern-facing coasts, some brighter spells east. Highs 5 to 7C, locally 9C in the southwest.
