Drier next week?
Showers before

Issued: 0800 Tuesday 22nd June 2021
Duty forecaster: Simon Keeling

Showers and some rain, probably drier next week

The week ahead presents some forecasting challenges. There is very low confidence in how the forecast develops into next week, although at this time we do believe it is likely to become drier. Before then the end of the week will be rather mixed. There will be some showers or longer spells of rain around.

Friday 25/6/21
Lower pressure is expected to be over the UK on Friday. This brings cloud and a risk of some heavy showers or longer spells of rain. These affecting many parts of England, Wales and Ireland as well as southern Scotland. Central and northern parts of Scotland will be brighter and drier with some sunny spells, a few showers and more cloud in the east. Highs at 16C in northern Scotland, 23C in eastern England.

Saturday 26/6/21
A slack area of low pressure in the south of the country on Saturday. Heavy showers are going to be developing in many parts of England, Wales and the far south of Ireland, these turning thundery at times. Better in northern England and Scotland with sunny spells here. Highs at 17 to 24C.

Sunday 27/6/21
A ridge of high pressure affects most of Ireland and the northern half of the UK on Sunday. Fair conditions here with sunny spells. Lower pressure to the south will be bringing cloud and periods of rain to the far south of Ireland, the Midlands and southern England. Highs at 17 to 22C.

Monday 28/6/21
Low pressure is to the south of the British Isles on Monday with high pressure to the north. There is a threat of showers across much of England, Wales and southern Ireland, but tending to be drier in Scotland and northern Ireland as well, perhaps, northern England. Highs at 16 to 21C.

Tuesday 29/6/21
Low pressure south of the British Isles on Tuesday. Cloud and outbreaks of rain in the south of England, perhaps southern Wales and the far south of Ireland, although much uncertainty as to where the rain is. Fair in more northern areas with sunny spells. Highs at 18 to 22C.

Wednesday 30/6/21
A ridge of high pressure is expected to build over the country through Wednesday. It should be dry for many areas with bright or sunny spells. Some patchy rain may affect western parts of Scotland and western Ireland. Highs at 16 to 21C.
