Mostly dry, milder

Issued: 0530hrs Tuesday 9th March 2021
Duty forecaster: Simon Keeling

Mainly dry England and Wales, rain and strong winds in Ireland and western Scotland

It's a chilly start to the day across much of England and Wales, with a frost in many areas. Plenty of sunshine in central and eastern parts to start the day. More cloud across western areas of England and Wales as well as central and western Scotland and Ireland. It is generally dry, but there may be a few spots of morning drizzle affecting Western Hills.

This afternoon will be dry through much of England and Wales, the best of any sunshine across the East Midlands, East Anglia and south east. Rain and strong winds affect Ireland as well as western Scotland. Some patchy rain in Northwest Wales on the far north-west of England. Gales are likely across Ireland and western Scotland. It will be turning milder.

Windy tonight with periods of rain across many areas. It should turn more showery in the north of Scotland later. Tending to be drier across East Anglia and the far south east of England. The heaviest of the rain affecting western Wales and parts of Northwest England. A mild night with no risk of frost.
