Issued: 0930 Tuesday 14th January 2024
Duty forecaster: Dan Graves

Mostly settled, some weak fronts slip west-to-east

Friday 17/1/25
High pressure continues affecting much of the country on Friday. A risk of mist and fog patches in England and Wales, slowly lifting to leave broken cloud. Some sunny spells possible, best in north England and east. More cloud in western Scotland, Ireland and perhaps west Wales with a few spots of drizzle here. Windy western Ireland and western Scotland. Highs at 7C England and Wales, 10C in Scotland.

Saturday 18/1/25
Higher pressure to the east pushes cool continental air into England, overnight fog possible in the southeast. A front slowly approaches western Ireland bringing increased cloud and some drizzle here. Fair further east for most with sunny spells, brightest in the northeast Britain. Southerly breezes, calmer in east England. Highs at 6 to 7C, for most, 10C in Ireland.

Sunday 19/1/25
A weakening front draped across Ireland pushes east, brining drizzle to west coastal areas, more persistent rain for west Scotland. Some drizzle patches likely to reach inland as well, particularly in Scotland and north England. More fog and mist possible in central and eastern England. Highs at 6C east England, 7 to 8C most elsewhere, up to 11C in Ireland.

Monday 20/1/25
Westerly breeze in the north brings showery rain to western Scotland and Northern Ireland. Pressure stays high to the south with rather cloudy skies persisting. Remnants of a front may produce light drizzle in many places. Brighter or sunny spells in the northeast. Highs 6 to 8C.

Tuesday 21/1/25
Light drizzle coming and going on southwestern-facing coasts, more frequent in Scotland. Quite cloudy in most places, some brighter spells east. Southern areas mostly dry with calmer winds. Highs of 9C south, 6C north.

Wednesday 22/1/25
Showers and increasing winds approach from the west through the day, primarily affecting Scotland and northern England. Brighter spells possible south of here, decreasing in frequency as the day goes on. High at 6 to 7C in Britain, 9C in Ireland.
