Issued: 0530hrs Saturday 16th January 2021
Duty forecaster: Alexi Venerus

Rain, sleet and snow gradually clearing to allow for drier and brighter weather.

Rain, along with sleet and snow on the leading edge, will push eastwards across the UK in the morning, clearing the north and west by midday. Drier and brighter weather will follow but with persistent wintry showers pushing across northern adn western Scotland.

In the afternoon, brighter spells become more widespread as rain, sleet and some snow gradually clears to the southeast. Showers becoming confined to far western and northern areas of Scotland.

Rain will eventually clear the far southeast corner by early evening allowing for a largely dry night with clear spells. Wintry showers, however, will continue to affect western Scotland as well as push into northwest England and Northern Ireland. Through the early hours there will be some rain, sleet and possible snow pushing across northern England and north Wales. Some frost and ice patches developing in places.
