Not much rain

Issued: 0900 Wednesday 13th June 2018
Duty forecaster: Dr. Simon Keeling

A mixed week with most of any rain to the north and very little rain to the south

The weather pattern has now changed. The coming week is likely to see winds predominantly from the west or south west. These will blow fronts eastwards through the country bringing cloud and some outbreaks of rain, most of these to Scotland and the north and west of Ireland. Rainfall amounts across eastern and southern England will remain low. Temperatures tending to stay warm in the south that close to average in the north.

Sunday 17/6/18
Increasing cloud through Sunday as fronts pass eastwards. There will be some bright spells around, the best in the west. Isolated showers forming in the east too in the afternoon as patchy rain crosses Ireland and reaches western Scotland. Low cloud may drift into west Wales and the coasts of southwest England later in the day too. A moderate southwest wind with tops near 17 to 22C.

Monday 18/6/18
A ridge of high pressure persists in the south on Monday. This brings broken cloud and some bright or sunny spells for many eastern and central areas. A weak front gives thicker cloud and some outbreaks of rain in western Ireland and western Scotland with the risk of low cloud drifting onto the coasts and hills of western wales and southwest England. Highs at 15C in northwest Scotland, 24C in any sunshine in southeast England.

Tuesday 19/6/18
Pressure stays mostly high in the south on Tuesday, although a front drifts across Scotland and Ireland. Western parts of Wales and northwest England have lower cloud and drizzle. Eastern and southern areas are drier and brighter. Highs near 18 to 24C.

Wednesday 20/6/18

Thursday 21/6/18
Pressure is expected to be staying high through Thursday. This brings a mostly fair day with broken cloud and sunny spells. The risk of a few showers affecting the northern and western parts of Scotland but most other areas will be dry. Highs at 24C in southern England, 17C in northern Scotland.

Friday 22/6/18
Low pressure is expected to be pushing fronts back into Western Island and western Scotland through Friday. Please bring cloud and outbreaks of rain. Elsewhere it should be dry with broken cloud and sunny spells. Temperatures rising to 23C in south-east England, 16C in the western Scotland.
