Cold through the weekend and early next week, some snow over hills, milder and unsettled later

Cold weather over the coming days. There may be snow over the hills of western and northern parts of the UK and Ireland. Tending to be more unsettled into next week as low pressure develops west of Ireland bringing periods of rain, some of it heavy.

Monday 16/12/19
Low pressure is to the northeast of the UK on Monday. This brings outbreaks of rain to western Ireland, western Scotland and later in to southern Wales and southwest England. Some wintry showers over the hills of Scotland and the hills of southern Ireland. Tending to be drier in central and eastern areas, although a threat of rain in the southeast later. Highs widely at 3 to 8C, 9 or 10C to the far southeast and southwest.


Tuesday 17/12/19
Low pressure to the west of Ireland on Tuesday while a weak ridge builds over the British Isles. Scattered showers in western parts of the UK and along southern coasts. More persistent rain for northern and western Scotland. Many areas will be dry although rather misty with a risk of fog at first. Cloud and rain builds into the southwest of Ireland later. High temperatures at 1 to 8C.


Wednesday 18/12/19
Low pressure over and west of Ireland on Wednesday brings periods of rain to Ireland, Wales, Northern Ireland, Scotland and far western parts of England. A windy day here too. Much of England stays dry with cloud building and winds strengthening through the day. High temperatures at 4 to 12C.
 


Thursday 19/12/19
Staying unsettled on Thursday for western areas but milder with low pressure just west of Ireland creating a southerly flow across the UK and Ireland. Rain, some of it heavy, especially in the west and north. Drier for much of England again. Breezy for all. Highs at 6 to 12C.


Friday 20/12/19
A similar day to Thursday with further outbreaks of, sometimes heavy, rain for Ireland. Showery rain for Wales, western Scotland and the far west of England. Drier and brighter to the east. Highs at 6 to 10C.

Saturday 21/12/19
Showery outbreaks of rain for Ireland and the western UK with good spells of sunshine. Cloud, rain and strong winds arrive from the southwest later. Staying milder with highs at 6 to 10C.
