An unsettled few days
Atlantic weather systems dominate this weekend and early next week, producing wet and windy spells across Britain and Ireland. Some drier intervals, but many places will see rain at some point each day. Feeling much milder than recent times thanks to the southwesterly winds.

Sunday 10/12/23 Low pressure pushes in from the west bringing heavy rain and strong winds. Eastern England and Scotland start dry, but rain sweeps eastwards across Britain during the day. Heaviest falls over western hills in Wales, northwest England and southwest Scotland. Persistent rain for Northern Ireland too. Gales developing around coasts in the west. Mild temperatures in the south 11 to 14C, cooler north at 6 to 9C.
Monday 11/12/23 Staying mixed with areas of rain and showers circulating around centres of low pressure. Another zone of more frequent rain may move in from the southwest. Driest and brightest for east and southeast England, may stay dry much of the day. Breezy in the south, lighter winds north. Mildest in the southeast. Highs 7 to 12C.
Tuesday 12/12/23 Low pressure continues to dominate with areas of rain and showers affecting many areas. Snow on hills in Scotland. Heavy showers toward the southwest, gusty winds along southern coasts. Locally drier and brighter in central and eastern England for periods. Cool in the north, staying fairly mild south. Highs 5 to 11C.
Wednesday 13/12/23 A ridge of high pressure builds from the west. Low pressure to the east brings showers and brisk northerly winds to East Anglia. Possibly wintry showers over hills in northeast England. Local showers near western coasts. Many inland areas dry with periods of sunshine. Cooler for all with highs 5 to 8C.
Thursday 14/12/23 High pressure to the southwest may expand further across the country. Quieter weather for many places with some fog and frost from dawn. A little rain in the northwest. Highs 4 to 9C.
Friday 15/12/23 High pressure may hold on across the southern half of Britain, whilst southwesterly winds to the north bring a risk of some rain to western Scotland and Northern Ireland. Highs 6 to 10C.
