Some wintry conditions at the weekend, otherwise dry for most
High pressure will be bringing lots of dry weather across much of the country through the coming week. Conditions will be turning colder and windier for a time into the early parts of next week. A risk of some wintry conditions over, mostly, the hills of northern England and Scotland.

High pressure is to the south of the British Isles on Friday. A warm front passes north of Scotland bringing some stronger winds here, cloud and outbreaks of drizzle and rain. Drier for southern and eastern Scotland as well as most of England, Wales and Ireland, although always a fair amount of cloud. There may be some drizzle over western coasts and hills. Generally dry, the best sunshine in the east. Highs at 6 to 10C.
Low pressure brings gales and a period of rain in Scotland early on Saturday. Turning brighter and cooler through the day with sleet and snow over hills. Cloud and showery rain pushing into northern England and Ireland, these wintry over hills. Southern areas will be drier with broken cloud, a few spots of drizzle over western coasts and hills. Breezy for all. Highs at 8 to 12C and turning colder in Scotland.
An area of showers and rain crossing the country later on Sunday. This could turn to sleet and snow on the hills over Wales, northern England , Northern Ireland and southern Scotland. Breezier and colder with some wintry showers in northern Scotland. Breezier in southern England, mostly dry. Highs at 3 to 9C.
A cold northwesterly flow developing through Monday. Showers in the north and east, wintry on hills. Becoming brighter with sunny spells and breezy too. Cloud and some showers in Ireland, northern and western coasts and hills, these falling as sleet and snow, mainly on high ground. Highs at 5 to 8C
Fronts passing eastwards through Scotland and northern England on Tuesday. Plenty of cloud and some outbreaks of rai and drizzle as well as low cloud shrouding the hills here. Drier ni the south, but some drizzle over western coasts and hills. Highs at 9 to 13C.
A weak ridge of high pressure builds through the UK and Ireland on Wednesday. Rather cloudy with some drizzle in northern and western areas. Milder at 8 to 13C.
