Heavy periods of rain this morning across much of England and Wales. This rain edges east and north into eastern England and southern Scotland during the day. Brighter weather with showers arrives into Wales, southern England and Northern Ireland, although heavy showers will be breaking out in southern Ireland, west Wales and southwest England. Gales in the southwest later. Staying dry in the far north of Scotland. Highs at 19C in southeast England but more generally 15 to 18C.

More persistent rain in central and southern Scotland, some of this heavy at first but easing as the night wears on. Showers may merge to longer spells of rain with a risk of thunder in the south later. Lows at 9 to 12C.
