Rain and hill snow in west and north, drier and brighter east, cold for all
Good morning,
A chilly start to the morning for all. There will be bright or sunny spells in the east and central parts of the country. Showers in the west will be turning increasingly to snow over the high ground of Wales, northwest England and central and western Scotland. Gales in northern Scotland. More persistent rain affecting southern Wales and southwest England. Ireland is dry in the east, showers in the west.
This afternoon sees the more persistent rain passing through southern England and into the Midlands and parts of northwest England. Again this rain falls as snow on the hills of Wales and northwest England, before the outbreaks of rain reach East Anglia later. Heavy snow in northern and western Scotland, some showers continuing to affect western Ireland. Eastern Ireland should be drier and brighter with sunny spells. Tonight becomes drier and clear in England and Wales with some icy roads and pavements forming as a result. Further snow over the hills of northwest Scotland.
