Week ahead - December 11, 2016
Unsettled until weekend
Mild then cooler

Issued: 1125 11 December 2016
Duty forecaster: John Ejdowski

Low frost risk until end of week

The weather becomes much more unsettled into the new week as Atlantic fronts spread outbreaks of rain in from the west. With the winds from the south west it does become milder. High pressure then builds in late in the week as it turns dry and cooler.

Wednesday 14/12/16
Mostly cloudy and breezy and it continues mild with a band of heavy rain lingering across the north and the west - fair and dry across central and eastern England. A wet, windy night to come for much of Britain except perhaps for East Anglia and the south east. Expect high temperatures of 8 to 12C.

Thursday 15/12/16
It appears cooler as temperatures fall but remain above average in most areas. As one area of rain clears eastward in the morning another area spreads into western areas in the afternoon, again this will be locally heavy. Another wet night for most places. Highs of 4 to 10C.

Friday 16/12/16
Cooler for all parts as a north west wind develops. Rain across eastern and central England gradually clears from the west but dry for much of the day across East Anglia and the south east. Sunnier in the west with showers around the coasts. A colder night with a risk of frost and some fog patches while rain affects Northern Ireland and north west Scotland. Highs of 6 to 11C.

Saturday 17/12/16
Chilly with rain into Scotland, north west England and Northern Ireland. A dry day for the rest of England and Wales with sunny spells. Fog patches in the south may be slow to clear. Rain lingers in the north tonight with a frost in the south. Highs of 4 to 8C.

Sunday 18/12/16
Fine, dry day with the best of the sunshine across England and Wales. Milder across Scotland and Northern Ireland, staying rather chilly for England and Wales. Risk of frost and dense fog by night. Highs of 4 to 6C.

Monday 19/12/16
Still quite a chilly day but with high pressure across Britain we expect it to stay dry and sunny after locally dense fog patches clear away. Expect highs of 5 to 7C but colder where fog lingers longest.
