Drier and mild, but hints of colder weather arriving next week

Temperatures will be lifting over the coming days as much of the country becomes dry. There will be some patchy rain and drizzle to the north and west, but this tending to fade. Mist and fog becoming more widespread overnight into the weekend, but remaining quiet overall. Hints of some colder weather reaching the UK and Ireland next week but this is still a long way off.

Friday 28/10/16
High pressure builds into England and Wales on Friday but affects all areas. A weak front remains and will bring lots of low cloud, drizzle and general murk to much of Ireland, Wales, southwester, central and southern England. The cloud will break allowing a few bright spells to come through, and feeling very mild where they develop. Probably brighter overall in northern England and Scotland, sunny spells here and mild too. Tops at 13 to 17C.

Saturday 29/10/16
High pressure remains over the south of England on Saturday. Morning mist and fog patches for England and Wales will be lifting slowly to leave a dry day with sunny spells. Cloud and some outbreaks of rain associated with fronts over western Ireland and western Scotland. Tops at a mild 13 to 17C.
 

Sunday 30/10/16
Little change on Sunday with high pressure remaining over England and Wales. Mist and fog patches may be slower to clear, but once they have the day will be dry with some bright spells. Fronts again affecting western Ireland and Scotland bringing cloud and outbreaks of rain here. Tops near 14 to 17C.
 

Monday 31/10/16
Higher pressure may slip a little further east on Monday. This brings drier weather with some sunny spells in the east after mist and fog patches clear. Fronts giving cloud and rain in western areas of Wales and Scotland as well as Ireland with colder air following. Highs at 9C in northern Scotland, 17C in southeast England.

Tuesday 1/11/16
The flow turns to a colder northwesterly through Tuesday. This is going to be bringing showers into Scotland, some of them wintry even at low levels, with snow showers o the hills of Northern Ireland and the far north of England as well as north Wales. Staying dry but much colder and brighter over the rest of England, Wales and southern Ireland. Highs at 6 to 11C.

Wednesday 2/11/16
Lower confidence in the forecast for Wednesday. Current ideas are that high pressure tries to build back into the west. More eastern areas seeing a few more showers, some of them wintry, but these fading as the high builds to leave drier, cold but bright conditions. Highs at 5 to 9C.
