Colder for all and dry, but more unsettled from the west later
A change in the weather is on the way into the weekend as much colder and drier weather develops, but perhaps more unsettled later next week.

High pressure is set to topple down into the British Isles and this will mean a lot of dry weather after a very cold and frosty start, harsh frost in places too. Some patchy rain, sleet and snow possible across the far north-east of Scotland, otherwise a lot of dry weather through the day with winter sunshine before frost soon returns from the late afternoon onwards. Cold or very cold. Marked wind-chill in the south in association with a fresh E'ly wind. Highs 1C to 5C.
Widespread harsh and perhaps severe frost in places to start the new working week. Cold or very cold overnight temperatures in Scotland and perhaps northern England in particular. Largely a dry and bright day, best sunshine across parts of central, northern and eastern areas. Snow flurries for east & south-eastern England are possible. Highs 1C to 4C.
Staying widely cold. A very cold east to southeasterly wind for many areas. Largely dry for most, especially England, Wales and Scotland, but more unsettled weather with rain and showers may well move into Ireland through the day. S or SE'ly wind for many, this locally fresh or strong in the west. Temperatures 1C to 6C, highest in Ireland.
More unsettled conditions are forecast to continue to try and move eastwards through Wednesday now and with an awkward mix of rain, sleet and some snow possible as wet weather moves into the cold air over the British Isles. Far eastern areas of England and Scotland though are likely to remain mainly dry, cold and bright. Winds S or SE'ly fresh and this creating a marked wind-chill factor too. Highs 2C to 7C, highest in the far west.
Uncertainties over the details, but further cold weather is likely, especially in the north and east, but with more unsettled weather, with rain, sleet and some snow stalling across more southern and western areas through the day. Winds moderate or fresh S or SE'ly, but perhaps more W or NW'ly in the far west and south-west. Highs 2C to 7C.
Further cold weather for most and still predominantly dry across more northern and eastern areas with S or SE'ly winds here, perhaps with some brighter weather too. Unsettled weather may still affect more southern and western areas through the day with a continued risk of some rain, sleet and snow. Highs 3C to 8C, highest in the west.
