Week ahead - May 30, 2017
Changeable into next week
Some warmth in south

Issued: 1000hrs Tuesday 30th May 2017
Duty forecaster: Garry Nicholson

Rain frequent, particularly west & north

High pressure across the country in the middle of this week will give way to a more changeable pattern later this week as fronts move in from the Atlantic. A generally unsettled outlook is expected into next week as the jet stream takes aim at the British Isles, bringing periods of rain and gusty winds in from the west.

Friday 02/06/17
A slack pressure regime is likely to exist across the British Isles, whilst a front pushes in from the west. Warm and humid air across the south & south-east, but fresher toward the north & west. A lot of cloud overall, and outbreaks of rain, which may locally turn heavy and persistent. Some thundery bursts may develop across southern areas. Light winds. Temepratures 16 to 19C north, 22 to 25C south.

Saturday 03/06/17
Confidence of detail is fairly low. Fronts are expected to clear eastwards, but may bring thundery rain to south-eastern Britain for a time. Fresher conditions and sunny spells should develop for many. However, low pressure over the Atlantic is likely to bring showers or some longer spells of rain for the west & north. Winds fairly light, but freshening in the west. Highs 15 to 22C, warmest south & east.

Sunday 04/06/17
Low pressure to the north-west and high pressure to the south-east produces a south-westerly pattern across the country. Fronts are likely to bring frequent rain to Ireland & Scotland, and an increasing risk of showers breaking out elsewhere through the day. Generally driest toward the south-east. Breezy, particularly around western coasts. Highs 16 to 21C.

Monday 05/06/17
Confidence of detail is low, but a rather unsettled outlook is likely into next week as low pressure over the Atlantic pushes rain-bearing fronts toward or across the British Isles. Generally wettest in the west, but some thundery bursts may trigger off toward the south-east should humid air be drawn in from the south. Highs 16 to 22C.

Tuesday 06/06/17
Most likely staying unsettled with periods of rain spreading from the west. Blustery winds probable. Cool in the north-west, warmer in the south-east, highs 15 to 22C.

Wednesday 07/06/17
Rain from time to time, most frequent toward the north & west as low pressure over the Atlantic is the dominant weather pattern. Blustery south-westerly winds. The south-east may escape drier. Highs 16 to 24C.
