Wet in north-west Scotland

Good morning,

Pressure is fairly slack across Britain today, with a general easterly breeze for southern areas. High pressure lies to the north and west, whilst shallow low pressure is over France and Spain.

A weakening frontal zone influences Ireland and Scotland, producing cloudy skies and outbreaks of rain, persistent most of the day for the north-west Highlands and western counties of Ireland, fading later. The south & east of Scotland should escape dry with hazy sun.

Meanwhile, much of England and Wales will be largely dry with a good amount of sunshine again. However, cloud will tend to build, and there is a risk of localised thundery showers breaking out for central-southern England by afternoon, these drifting westwards into east Wales by evening. Chance of an isolated shower over the Pennines too.

Today's top temperatures will reach 21 to 24C inland, but nearer 17C around coasts. Cooler where rain persists in the far north-west, just 10C or perhaps less.
