Fog cancelled match

Thick fog cancelled the championsleague match between Juventus Turin and Bayer Leverkusen Wednesday night. Thick pea soup reduced the visibility to less than 30m (100ft) and Swiss referee Urs Meier called the game off nine minutes before it started at Turin's Delle Alpi arena.

In fact, visibility was so poor that the players could not see to the goal on the opposite site , Bayer's coach Klaus Toppmoeller said. Turin and large parts of northern Italy were blanketed by dense fog - nothing unusual around this time of the year. The game has been postponed until next week's Wednesday.
