Below normal temperatures may soar later

We're still not seeing a protracted spell of fine, dry, summery type weather for the up coming week. Low pressure and Atlantic fronts will continue to bring persistent rain and showers to all parts of the country and this will keep temperatures well down. Towards the end of the forecast it does look much warmer and while it may stay warm beyond that, low pressure is again set to dominate.

Wednesday 11/07/07
A dry morning across East Anglia and Kent. Elsewhere it's overcast and misty with outbreaks of rain which spread to all areas by the afternoon. The heaviest rain is likely to fall across Wales and Scotland. The rain clears the east overnight with a few showers then around western coasts. Highs of 15 to 20C.

Thursday 12/07/07
After a dry, bright start, cloud and showers will develop across much of Britain during the morning, becoming heavier in the afternoon with a rumble of thunder possible for northern England, Scotland and Wales. Highs of 15 to 20C.

Friday 13/07/07
A dry morning across eastern parts of England but rain in the west will then move across Wales and all of England in the afternoon. Showers are expected across Scotland but a drier afternoon here. Highs of 14 to 18C north to south.

Saturday 14/07/07
It becomes hot in the south today and much warmer in most places. Early rain clears Scotland then dry today. For England and Wales it's a dry but dull morning. This soon clears and there is a risk of some heavy, thundery showers in the afternoon and evening. Look for highs of 19 to 26C.

Sunday 15/07/07
It's looking dry and very warm to hot across much of central and eastern England and Scotland today with sunny skies. An area of rain will slowly move into western areas but confidence is low in the forecast. Highs at 22 to 28C.
