The weather looks set to get better, but it's going to be a slow process

Good morning again.

I'm pleased to say that we may briefly get a period of better weather this weekend. Now, it's not good news for all of us, particularly northern Scotland, but for the majority of the country we may see a return to summer, if only for a few hours.

For today though it's a north-south split across the country. Northern areas are likely to be having cloud and some outbreaks of showery rain, thanks to old fronts which are slowly decaying as pressure builds. To the south it is going to be a much drier day, although still with a broken cloud and bright spells. It is going to be a windy day across much of Wales and the southern half of England.

Little change for this afternoon, but at least is should be mainly dry over central and southern England. That's good news for Wimbledon and also the first practice sessions at Silverstone (I mention this because I'll be there!). The winds still strong in places, and I wouldn't be surprised to see gusts to gale force on western coasts.

Saturday looks pleasant in some sunshine, with warm conditions Sunday. However, true to form, I don't think this fine weather will be lasting long as thundery showers are probably going to be breaking out on Sunday afternoon. make the most of it while it lasts!
