Vietnam: Flooding - Monday, 02 Jul 2007 Vietnam: Flooding Heavy rains kill three HANOI, July 2, 2007 (AFP) - Heavy rains in northern Vietnam have killed three people while one was missing, an official said Monday. A mother and her two children were killed as they slept early Sunday when a brick wall collapsed on their temporary house as a result of strong wind and heavy rain, said Nguyen Van Duc, a flood and storm control official in Quang Ninh province. "When we found them, there was still so much water in their mouths. We could not save them," he said, adding that the accident happened in Cam Pha town. Duc said the fourth victim was a coal mine worker on the way to her night shift, who had been swept away by flooding. "Efforts are still ongoing to find her body," Duc told AFP. Meanwhile, in northern mountainous Sin Ho district of Lai Chau province, four people were reported missing after an overloaded boat capsized, the state-run Vietnam News Agency said. tmh/aud/mtp |
