Chilly east, a few showers, mostly dry and bright in the west

Cloudy and chilly across most central and eastern areas of England this morning. Patchy rain and showers in the east. Brighter in northern and western areas with sunny spells and feeling chilly here as well.

This afternoon sees a risk of more persistent showers in the east, an odd one locally heavy. Brighter in northern England, Scotland and Ireland as well as Wales and western England. Sunny spells here and feeling milder.

Scattered showers tonight over eastern England. Mostly dry elsewhere with clearer spells. An isolated shower may affect the western Midlands. A chance of a ground frost in well sheltered areas of the west under the clearer skies.
