Heavy showers for Spain

Issued: 0530hrs Sunday 27th September 2009
Duty forecaster: John Ejdowski

Pleasantly warm

Today
With the weather pattern still dominated by high pressure, it will remain settled across much of Europe. For England, northern France, Belgium, Holland, Denmark and Germany it will be staying fine and dry with good sunny spells once any early fog patches clear. But there is risk of some heavy showers for the south of France and across Switzerland with thunderstorms too. A band of heavy, thundery showers will also be found across eastern Spain and the Balearics with Portugal and western Spain fine and sunny. Just a few showers across Italy with sunny spells while heavy showers will again affect Sicily. Outbreaks of rain will affect Norway, Sweden and Finland. A large area of dry weather will prevail across Poland, The Baltic States, Russia, Belarus, the Ukraine and across the Balkans.

Monday
Continued dry across the United Kingdom, Belgium and Holland with sunny spells. Dry with lots of sunshine as well across all of France and western Spain along with Portugal. Eastern Spain and the Balearics will see some heavy thundery showers with a few showers too in the far south of Italy. The bulk of Italy though looks fine and sunny and this fine weather will stretch across right across into the former Yugoslavia, Greece, Turkey, Bulgaria into Hungary and Romania. An area of heavier rain will lie from Russia across the Baltic States across northern parts of Poland, Germany and Denmark. Dry for southern parts of Germany and Poland with sunny spells. Showers will affect Norway with basically a dry day for Sweden and Finland.
