Cool continues into the weekend, then more unsettled and less chilly next week
A cool westerly flow will be affecting the UK and Ireland through the rest of this week. The weekend becomes quieter on Saturday before wind and rain arrive Sunday. The jet stream then meandres across the UK next wek bringing mixed and unsettled conditions with varying temperatures.

A ridge of high pressure builds through the UK and Ireland on Saturday bringing fair conditions and sunny spells. Thicker cloud and rain moves into Ireland as fronts edge eastwards and the winds increase. Highs at 2 to 6C.
Fronts passing eastwards on Sunday taking rain with them. The rai may be heavy over western coasts and hills and could be preceded by some snow on the hills too. Milder weather will be reaching most places. Plenty of mist and murk. Highs at 3 to 9C.
There is the risk of fronts affecting central and southern parts of the UK and Ireland on Monday, although confidence in the detail remains low. These fronts bringing cloud and rain, most in the west. More northern parts of England and Scotland are likely to be brighter and cooler with sunny spells and scattered showers.Highs at 4C in Scotland, 10C in southern England.
With low pressure to the west of Ireland on Tuesday a milder southwest flow is expected to develop. There will be cloud and rain in Ireland and western Scotland. Low cloud and drizzle may trouble western and southern coasts of England and Wales. Becoming brighter inland and drier here too. Highs at 6 to 10C.
Low pressure to the northwest of Scotland on Wednesday. This pushes fronts eastwards taking cloud and rain with them. Showers follow from the north and west, turning wintry as the day progresses. Perhaps staying wet in the east until evening. Highs at 4 to 10C.
Low pressure close to Scotland on Thursday. This bringing unsettled conditions with rain in Scotland, this turning to sleet on the hills. Further south it will be bright and breezy with a mix of sunshine and showers. Highs at 3C in northern Scotland, 8C in southern England.
