Duty forecaster: Simon Keeling
After a wet weekend conditions should be settling down for a time next week. There will be sunny spells for most. By the middle of the week more western areas may well be turning cloudier again, and by the end of the week most of the country could become more unsettled, although confidence is low.

A further area of low pressure will be spreading east through England and Wales on Sunday. This is going to be bringing heavy rain and strong winds with it, perhaps sufficient rain to lead to localised flooding in these areas. The rain should clear eastwards with brighter weather and heavy showers following from the west. Brighter across Scotland and Ireland, but some showers here, most of them well scattered. Highs at 14 to 20C.
A ridge of high pressure builds into Ireland and southwest England on Monday. Low pressure is over southern Norway and this brings a northwest flow through the British Isles. There will be some showers over northern and eastern Scotland as well as eastern England, although these should be scattered. Brighter to the west and south, and drier too. Highs at 15 to 21C.
A slack west to northwest flow for most on Tuesday. There will be good spells of sunshine, but also the threat of a few showers in the east. Thicker cloud over southern Ireland and the far southwest of England bringing the risk of some more persistent rain here later. Highs at 15 to 22C.
The flow remains northwesterly through the country during Wednesday. There will be sunny spells and mainly dry conditions. However, some showers could affect northern and eastern Scotland as well as eastern parts of England. Highs at 14C in northern Scotland, 23C in southern England.
Confidence is low in the forecast for Thursday. There is likely to be some cloud and rain in Ireland and western Scotland. More eastern and southern parts of the country will be drier with some sunny spells, although the risk of a shower too. Highs at 14 to 21C.
A more unsettled day on Friday with rain affecting many western and northern areas. The east and south should be drier with sunny spells, although a few showers cannot be ruled out. Highs at 16 to 23C.
