Chilly this week and weekend but milder, cloudy and windy next week

Temperatures stay on the cool side overall through this week and into the weekend. Some rain and showers, wintry on the hills in the next few days. A cool weekend with some coastal showers. Turning breezier and milder into the early to middle stages of next week. There will be plenty of cloud and rain too with most rain affecting western and northern coasts and hills.

Friday 15/12/17
A chilly north or north-westerly flow on Friday with higher pressure to the west and lower pressure to the east. Areas of wintry showers, mainly around coasts in the west and north, perhaps also eastern areas. Sunny spells in central and southern regions. Frosty overnight where sheltered. Highs 1 to 7C.


Saturday 16/12/17
Pressure is likely to build from the west on Saturday although lower pressure stays to the east. A few scattered showers in the west on coasts and hills. Variable amounts of sunshine, although also a fair amount of cloud. A widespread hard frost is likely early on. Highs 1 to 7C.
 


Sunday 17/12/17
A front will be bringing some cloud and rain into Ireland and Scotland through Sunday. Mostly dry in central and eastern parts of England and Wales until later in the day. A ridge of higher pressure building in Ireland later with drier weather following here. Highs at 1 to 8C.
 


Monday 18/12/17
A weak front clears eastern areas on Monday. This is followed by drier weather with broken cloud, although low cloud and drizzle may affect western coasts and hills. More persistent rain in western Ireland and western Scotland and breezy here too. A milder day at 4 to 10C.


Tuesday 19/12/17
A mild and moist southwest flow affects all parts of Ireland and the UK on Tuesday. It is likely to be a breezy day with plenty of cloud and outbreaks of drizzle. More persistent rain in western Ireland and western Scotland. Highs at 6 to 11C.

Wednesday 20/12/17
A mild day again for most. Plenty of cloud and some outbreaks of rain, most to the south and west. Perhaps brighter in Scotland and drier here. Highs at 4 to 11C.
