Duty forecaster: Garry Nicholson

For the weather for the next few days click here

Sunday 26/02/17
A mild south-westerly flow affects the British Isles. A dry and bright day for central & south-eastern regions after overnight rain has cleared, although cloud will thicken from the west as fronts move back in from the Atlantic. Rain turns heavy and persistent for western Britain & Ireland. Winds freshening through the day, strongest in the west & north. Temperatures 9 to 12C, mildest in east.

Monday 27/02/17
Low pressure over the Atlantic moves closer to the British Isles, whilst various fronts push eastwards across the country. Some persistent and occasionally heavy rain is likely to spread to many areas through the day. Rain most frequent in the west & south-west, accompanied by squally south-westerly winds. Driest & brightest toward the north-east, some sunshine. Highs 7 to 10C.

Tuesday 28/02/17
A broad area of low pressure is expected to become centred across the British Isles, resulting in a generally unsettled day. Areas of rain and heavy showers will move around slowly, giving frequent rain for many hours in some areas. Meanwhile, some places may escape dry for much of the day, but local detail uncertain. Blustery winds near coasts. Cool in rain, highs 6 to 10C.

Wednesday 01/03/17
Confidence decreases through midweek. Conditions should improve as low pressure pulls away from the British Isles. Areas of showers may remain, but many areas should see brighter spells and some sunshine. Risk of a cool north to north-westerly wind. Temperatures rather cool at 6 to 10C.

Thursday 02/03/17
Low confidence: A rather mixed outlook, with areas of showery rain possible. Pressure may build slowly, attempting to settle things down for a time. Staying on the cool side, possible frost in the north. Highs 6 to 10C.

Friday 03/03/17
Low confidence: High pressure may lie to the east of Britain and may give a fair day for some, whilst low pressure tries to push back in from the west, bringing a risk of rain developing. Probably becoming milder, highs 7 to 12C.
