Drier weather ahead
After a mixed start

Issued: 0900 Monday 15th April 2024
Duty forecaster: Dr. Simon Keeling

A cold and changeable start, then becoming drier and sunnier

A chilly start to this week with some rain in northern areas. Higher pressure starting to build in the south and this heralds a change in conditions. By the end of the week and into the weekend high pressure becomes established and whilst there could be some showers in the east, most areas wil become dry with sunshine. Warmer too in the west where the best sunshine will be.

The rain arrives in more eastern and southern areas of Scotland in the afternoon. Temperatures around 9 to 13C.

Saturday 20/4/24
High pressure slowly builds over the British Isles on Saturday. Some cloud and rain from a weak front in the far north of Scotland. Most areas will be dry and bright with sunny spells, although always some cloud around, especially in northern areas. Highs at 12 to 16C.

Sunday 21/4/24
High pressure remains on Sunday. The flow turning more northeast and this brings more cloud to central and eastern Scotland and eastern England. A risk of some spots of rain and showers here too. More western areas should be brighter with sunny spells. Highs at 11C on eastern coasts, 19C in the west.

Monday 22/4/24
High pressure over Scotland on Monday. The flow turning more easterly. Central and eastern areas seeing more coud and a chance of a few showers. The best sunshine in the west where it will be warm. Highs at 20C here but nearer 8 C in northern and eastern Scotland, generally 11 to 13C.
