Early heavy rain
Getting better weekend

Issued: 0900 Tuesday 27th June 2017
Duty forecaster: Simon Keeling

Staying unsettled with early heavy rain, then more mixed with some drier weather developing

The weather is set to be unsettled through the coming week. There will be some heavy rain at times in the next few days and strong winds too. Feeling chilly in those winds, especially in the north and east. A change to a westerly wind direction through the weekend brings about less rain with some sunshine and drier conditions developing in the south and east. A couple of mainly fair days to start next week before more rain arrives towards the end of the forecast period.

For the weather for the next few days click here

Friday 30/6/17
Low pressure to the east of the country on Friday with a northerly flow affecting all areas. Showers and outbreaks of rain across eastern parts of Scotland and some more persistent rain in central, eastern and southern England as a front clears south. Showers in western Wales and southwest England. Much of Ireland wil be dry but breezy with some sunny spells, although showers affecting the east. Highs at 12 to 19C.

Saturday 1/7/17
The flow tuns more westerly on Saturday with low pressure to the north and high pressure to the south. Fronts pass eastwards taking outbreaks of rain with them, most affecting western Scotland and Ireland. Tending to be drier and brighter to the south and east. Perhaps breezy in northwest Scotland. Highs at 23C in southeast England, 14 to 18C elsewhere.

Sunday 2/7/17
Low pressure to the east on Sunday although a ridge of high pressure building into the west. A band of patchy rain clears east during the night with drier weather then following for most during the day, bright or sunny spells developing. Cloudier sies and some rain associated with a front affecting Scotland. Highs at 14 to 18C but nearer 21C along southern coasts of England.

Monday 3/7/17
Fronts may pass east on Sunday taking some showery bursts of rain with them. Drier weather follows from the west as a ridge of high pressure builds, the best of the sunshine across Ireland. Highs around 13 to 21C.

Monday 3/7/17
A ridge of high pressure probably brings a dry day to many parts of the UK on Monday. Coud and some drizzle may arrive in western Scotland and western Ireland later in the day although the east of these areas stay dry. Highs at 17 to 22C.

Tuesday 4/7/17
High pressure brings another fair day across eastern and southern areas. More northern and western parts are likely to be cloudier with some patchy outbreaks of rain, most in Ireland and western Scotland. Highs at 24C in southeast England, 17 to 20C elsewhere.
