Windy with the Risk of Gales At Times
As the jet stream digs south of the country over the next few days, it develops strong areas of Atlantic low pressure and these will run towards the United Kingdom with their associated active weather fronts spreading in persistent outbreaks of rain to be followed by heavy, blustery showers. Winds will also be a feature with gales at times.

Sunday 26/08/12 The far south of England looks dry this morning with sunny spells but the rest of the country will have outbreaks of rain, some of it heavy across Scotland. In the afternoon that rain lingers across southern Scotland and northern England with showers across Wales and the North Midlands. Mainly dry in the far south of England in the north of Scotland. A dry night to come across Britain. Expect highs of 13 to 19C.
Monday 27/08/12 It becomes increasingly windy today with gales developing in the west. Outbreaks of rain will affect Northern Ireland in the morning and will spread eastward in the afternoon, although East Anglia and the southeast may stay dry until overnight. The rain looks heavy west and north but very light and patchy in the east. Expect maximum temperatures of 15 to 20C.
Tuesday 28/08/12 Continued windy across Scotland today. Patchy light rain across the southeast will slow to clear away to the east and for much of the day, expect sunny spells and scattered showers across the country. Maximum temperatures of 16 to 21C.
Wednesday 29/08/12 Much of the country will be fine and dry today with sunny spells. There is a risk of a few widely scattered, mainly light showers across western parts of Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales. Top temperatures of 16 to 22C.
Thursday 30/08/12 Confidence is low in the detail, but it does look as though most parts of the country are going to be unsettled with showers or longer spells of rain today. Warmer in the south and we can expect top temperatures of 18 to 24C.
Friday 31/08/12 Models suggest it remains unsettled across the United Kingdom with plenty of showers to come, these heavy in the west. Another band of heavy rain may push into Ireland and Scotland. In the night. Expect high temperatures of 16 to 20C.
