MIAMI, Sept 11, 2012 (AFP) - Tropical Storm Leslie was on the verge of making landfall on the eastern Canadian island of Newfoundland on Tuesday, according to the US-based National Hurricane Center. The storm, packing sustained winds of up to 70 miles (110 kilometers) per hour, was expected to sweep over Newfoundland later Tuesday morning before moving back out into the Atlantic and churning north, the NHC said. In their 0900 GMT advisory, the forecasters predicted "hurricane-force wind gusts" in parts of Newfoundland and said the storm would cause "life-threatening surf and rip conditions" along the coast.
