Nadine on verge of becoming hurricane

MIAMI, Sept 13, 2012 (AFP) - Tropical Storm Nadine is on the verge of becoming a hurricane far out in the middle Atlantic, but is not on track to strike land, the US National Hurricane Center said late Wednesday. The storm was just beneath hurricane-strength, with winds of 70 miles (110 kilometers) per hour, as it churned some 820 miles east of the Lesser Antilles, the Miami-based forecasters said in their 11:00 pm (0300 GMT) bulletin. There were no coastal watches or warnings in effect. The 2012 hurricane season, running from June 1 to November 30, has thus far seen 14 tropical storms, seven of which have become hurricanes.
