John: After a short respite, more wet and windy weather spreads in from the west today, and while it will be heavy, it won't last as long as what we had recently. Simon: Showers are now clearing Cumbria and southeast Scotland. Heavy showers affecting western Scotland this afternoon, and a few along the coasts of Northern ireland. For the flood affected areas of northwest England this should provide a chance for waters to receed a little before more rain returns on Saturday. Issued: 08:36hrs Friday 20th November 2009
Simon: After drier weather today there is more rain on the way for the weekend. This could be heavy again at times, the risk of a further 60mm falling during the weekend through Cumbria and southern Scotland and 50mm of rain over western Wales. The winds increase too and we need to watch for gusts in excess of 70mph over exposed western coasts late on Sunday and voernight into early Monday, gusts could exceed 60mph inland too. John: More severe weather on the cards today with heavy rain to fall across parts of Scotland, north west England and north west Wales. Falls of 120-200m are possible across Cumbria and southern Scotland so a real possiblity of widespread flooding today. Another windy day as as well with gusts over 70 mph. John: Heavy rain now is falling across norhern England with warnings out and as Simon stated, 150mm are possible in the coming days with a risk of flooding there and across Wales and Scotland. This will often be accompanied by strong gales. Gusts over 80 mph are now affecting the west and higher gusts are possible later tomorrow. The stormy weather is expected to persist into the weekend but the mild weather is expected to give way to cold on Sunday. Issued: 18:33hrs Tuesday 17th November 2009

Simon: Heavy rain is on its way for tonight and tomorrow morning. The band of rain edges through Ireland this evening, and then into northadn west wales, as well as northwest England and southern Scotland overnight. Heavy periods of rain are likely in these areas into Wednesday morning. There could be over 30mm of rain falling over the high ground of northwest Wales tonight, and then again over northwest England and southern Scotlajnd on Wednesday morning. |
